Today I’m going to share with you one of my biggest party/pot luck secrets– this is a recipe that has literally never been a disappointment. It’s been a hit at every get together I’ve brought it to, it’s almost always one of the first plates cleared, and it is basically one of the easiest things in the world to make. If you’re a fan of salty and sweet, you’ll definitely be into this. Years ago my brother and our friends named them Dags, although I have no idea why, but the name has stuck for this delicious Chocolate Saltine Toffee Bark
You will need:
2 sleeves of Saltines (you may not use every single one)
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar (I use light because I prefer it a little less sweet, but dark is fine too!)
1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Pre-heat your oven to 400. Line a cookie sheet with raised edges with tin foil or parchment paper, then line with a single layer of saltines. In a sauce pan, melt butter and brown sugar together. Allow this mixture to boil for about 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently. Once they are completely combined, immediately pour the mixture over the saltines, spreading over the entire tray evenly. Place in oven and bake for 3-5 minutes.
Remove your tray from the oven, and immediately pour chocolate chips over the top. Give them a moment to get warm and melty, and spread them evenly across the saltines with the back of a spoon. If desired, sprinkle on chopped nuts.
Place these babies in the fridge and let them chill for AT LEAST one full hour, until everything is completely solid. Remove ’em, pull the paper off the back of ’em, break ’em up, and do your best to not eat the entire batch before your event 🙂
